“Sweetheart” (sitting from my balcony watching today’s rain in Yanbu)

Finally you come again
Three hundred sixty-five days was more than enough
To catch your glimpse and taste your sweet
Knocking on the doors of the sky
You descend on our roof drumming
Casting your fragrance in the horizon
You light the staring faces, wet the smiling dimples
You send the kids hailing, the leaves falling
Hearts supplicating
All to welcome your drizzle!

Eid Mubaarak!

images (9)I wish Eid Mubaarak to all my friends! After a month of fasting and supplication to Allah Subhanahu wa ta’ala, it was rounded up with a grand Eid celebration. Everyone dressed in his/her best clothes. It was first with congregational prayer then followed eating, drinking, gifts and visitations. People came from far and near to exchange love and compassion with one another. Everyone was happy to see the end of this important spiritual exercise. You could see expression of accomplishment, satisfaction and gratefulness in people’s faces. The end of Ramadan is always a great moment.

One more day to weekend!

Just finished my last class of the day, and being Wednesday I almost began to think it was the last day of the week! One more day to go! A new system which begun just this week – a major and lifetime change I’d witness. Our new weekend is now Fridays and Saturdays. No more rushing from Haram after Friday prayers to catch up with Saturday’s huddles. Alhamdulillah!

Showcasing Nigeria abroad

Every academic session, Yanbu International School used to organize an international day where students, teachers and parents showcase the heritage of their respective countries. Being an International school situated in an expatriate-dominated city of Saudi Arabia, it has students and teachers from different parts of the world. This year’s held on the 18th of April, 2013, and for the first time in the history of the event, Nigeria was represented. My family and I with great support from few fellow Nigerians that were also working in the city put together some scanty items, which included this presentation that I prepared. We had a booth; we prepared some Nigerian cookies and shared them among visitors of our booth. We explained some historical people and events that were displayed in many pictures that we brought. It was really a great day; we had fun; people from different countries came around, ate our delicacies and left with remarkable memories. Great Nigeria!
